Import License Process: a Lengthy & Multi-step Process

Before a company obtains an Import License or Permit, the product holder is required to set up a company. The period in which a foreign company is incorporated can take from weeks to months. The period depends on how well-prepared its set of company documents are, for submission to the Indonesian authorities. Another prerequisite of this process is, a Foreign Company has to submit an investment plan with a minimum paid-up capital of IDR 10 billion.

It is only when these milestones are completed, can a company then apply for its import permits and licenses, which could take another 3 – 6 months. For products to be finally traded in Indonesia, a product holder should note to buffer time for Product Registration with BPOM and other licenses such as Halal License and SNI license.
